march 2020

william威廉希尔dear parents and guardians:

william威廉希尔welcome to march!  this month offers the opportunity for continuous instruction with little interruption! march brings several important items that you should be aware of as parents.  first, do not forget to move your clocks ahead this sunday, march 8th as we “spring forward” for the beginning of daylight saving time.

Please be sure your child has returned their course selections for 2020-2021 school year to the guidance office.  Feel free to contact your child’s counselor with any questions regarding their scheduling options.  For those of you with incoming sixth grade students, our incoming Sixth Grade Parent Orientation will be held March 12th, at 6:30PM in the RPHS auditorium.  Please remember, this is a parent/guardian only event.

our sixth grade classes will attend an assembly called resource force that contains a variety of science skits related to energy.  this assembly is performed by the national theater for children and will occur on march 13th.  the rocky point music department is extremely busy this month!  on sunday, march 15th, the 8th grade band is excited to be marching with the rphs marching band in the rocky point st. patrick’s day parade.  later in the week, please join us for our annual “night of strings” concert that features the music of both the middle and high school orchestras.  this concert will take place in the rphs auditorium, march 19th at 7pm.  the annual rpms “little doctor’s blood drive” will be held march 17th between the hours of 2:15 pm-8pm.  the blood drive will take place in the middle school gymnasium.  please consider donating, as we are in desperate need of blood donors!  march 23rd marks the official start of the ms spring sports season.  please make sure all paper work gets turned into the health office by march 13th  , if you have not already done so.  the new york state ela assessments will take place on wednesday, march 25th and thursday, march 26th.  we are anxiously awaiting the rpms production of disney’s, the little mermaid jr at the end of the month.  the performances will be held friday, march 27th and saturday, march 28th at 7pm in the rphs auditorium.  last but not least, it seems hard to believe but the third quarter comes to a close on friday, march 27th, report cards will be posted the following friday, april 3rd.

As a reminder, students who want to stay after school to watch an athletic event, must go home on their regular dismissal bus, as there is no supervision for them between the end of the day at 2:15 and the start of the athletic events at 4:00 or 4:30.   Students may come back up to the building at 4:00 to root on their friends and fellow students.  Also, if you are allowing your child to walk off school grounds at the end of the school day, please send in a signed written note authorizing this to the RPMS Main Office.  Students who leave the school grounds are not permitted to use the late bus transportation.

william威廉希尔the weather during the month of march may bring about the necessity for weather related issues.  if inclement weather leads to a decision for school to be closed or for a two-hour delayed opening, please check the following radio/tv stations:  walk fm 97.5, wbli fm 106.1 or tv– cablevision news 12, as well as, via the district’s blackboard connect telephone notification system.  the weather may also result in the district utilizing inclement weather bus stops at times.  these may be called for at any time during the day so it is recommended you review the inclement weather stops for your child, as soon as possible.  (the inclement weather stops are accessible through your parent portal account, click on the inclement weather bus stop link under your child’s regular bus stop).  if you require assistance with the parent portal, please call 631-744-1600, extension 7726.
